Diverse cropping systems and challenging soil conditions in Nebraska, particularly in the Nebraska Panhandle, call for an extensive and multi-disciplinary research program to optimize soil and nutrient management for profitable and sustainable agricultural production. Changing climate, unpredictable and severe weather events, dwindling water supply and quality, and end-user consumers have driven the demand for a sustainability approach in soil and nutrient management. My research and extension programs focus on cost-effective, efficient, and sustainable production systems that optimize profitability and improve soil productivity, nutrient utilization, and enhanced nutrient management in irrigate, limited-irrigation, and rain-fed production systems. Together with my team, we provide effective leadership through updating and developing soil and nutrient management practices in diverse agroecosystems in the state. We translate research-based information into learner-centered products and deliver them at various extension educational programs that serve growers, consultants, agencies, and agricultural industry professionals.
